分词在句中关键作定语、状语用，作表语也十分广泛。
分词的功效：作定语
分词作定语有2种方式。它能够放到被装饰的专有名词以前，称之为前置定语。有的放到被装饰的专有名词以后，称之为后置定语。
（1）前置定语
He is a promising young man.? 他是一个有前途的年青人。
Make less noise. There#39s a sleeping child.? 不必出很大响声，有一个小孩子在入睡。
We only sell used books.? 大家只卖使用过的书。
（2）后置定语
The young man sitting between John and Mary is the editor of the campus newspaper.? 坐到罗伯特和玛丽中间的那一个年轻小伙子是校园内报的编写。
The bridge built last month needs repairing.? 上一个月修建的那座桥必须维修。
分词的功效：分词作状语
Being a student, he likes to help others. 作为一个学员，他喜欢帮助别人。
Wearing a new pair of glasses, she can read easily. 戴了一副新眼镜，她去看书就好多了。
She is there waiting for us. 她在那儿等大家呢。
Told by the teacher, she knew she was wrong. 经老师一说，她知道自己不对。

如今分词： 表明积极，正在进行
以往分词： 表明处于被动，已经完成
She looked tired with cooking.她因为忙着煮饭，看起来有一些疲惫。
